                                                                  Volunteer Experience

In the year 2015 I entered Strive Prep Excel as a student and it was a long way from my house to get to school, I had to take 3 buses and it took me about 2 ½ hours to get from home to school and from school to my house. On this journey I experienced a lot of unpleasant moments, such as seeing people asking for food, asking for money, even people without clothes because they didn't have enough money to afford a t-shirt, or shoes. The moment I decided to do something that would help a little was when I saw a mother with her daughter without clothes nor shoes asking for food at that moment I felt bad horribly bad and so thankful for my life and for everything had. I went home asked my mom for clothes she didn't want or used any more from her and my little sister and right away took it to the lady and her daughter on the street. I also gave her half of the money I made from my previous check.

From that moment I knew I had to help out people like the previous women, people that are in need of help. If not help out every single person, but at least the people in need of my community. So I decided to volunteer as a employee member of Good Will giving and sending clothes to people of need. I volunteered for 2 months. My duty was to package shoes, jackets, towels in bags to later be loaded onto a truck and sent to the places of need such as; the middle east, Africa, and many more other places. Also we would deliver things that  would help them in their kitchen or things that help them to cook. I volunteer to help out after seeing a document on netflix of the children in Africa dying from not having anything to eat or drink. In the documentary I saw them even without clothes and that really impacted me. I felt like I could help out. I saw restaurants downtown throwing plates full of food just because it had too much oil on it, or too salty. Every time I saw this it impacted me in an angry and emotional way, and I knew I had to do something about it. I knew I could've done something to help them out, so I did. I volunteered at Goodwill thrift store. I know I did not save all those children in Africa but I did help to save someone's life or to make someone's life better and happier.
